These lyrics speak. When I was younger and believed in soul mates, I might have felt that searching for a heart of gold referred to finding your perfect match. These days, it resonates with my desire for self-improvement. I’m coming to terms with the life-long nature of this pursuit. Today, I define a “heart of gold” as someone who behaves in accordance with their values, and always with good intentions. We cannot plan to be perfect. In fact, we can count on being imperfect. We can plan to learn from our mistakes, and to get better with age.
