I have never doubted the value of platonic friendships (love) between men and women. As traditional gender lines become blurred, it seems increasingly apparent that division by gender is a ridiculous cultural notion to begin with. This past week I had many conversations with someone I would consider a good friend. He felt that it was often in natural for men and women to have quality platonic relationships (our relationship being, more or less, the exception), and I feel that’s a shame. I think of all the incredible people who will never meet and develop friendships because they are self-limiting, and I think we could do better and be better for it 🤝
Boy, you never saw the light in a woman’s eyes with whom you wouldn’t spend the night
You say it’s the way that things have always been
But if you want, guess I’m here to be your exception Your exception
Just let me love love love love
The way I love love love love
And if you love love love love
The way I love love love love
You’ve found a friend
You’ve found a friend
And when I think of what you’re missing
The words from lips that you’d rather be kissing
I don’t envy you at all
The love you won’t accept makes the world so, so small
Just let me love love love love
The way I love love love love
And if you’d love love love love
Just a little love love love love
I’ll be there in your darkest hour
Don’t underestimate the power of platonic love
I know, it’s like picking a flower
You wanna own it, but then it’s dead and gone
Oh, my my love love love love
Just let me love love love love
The way I love love love love
And then you’ll see my my my love
You’ve found a friend
Sidenote: I wrote and recorded this on my phone just Wednesday of this week.
